I'm going to have to give you a verdammt history lesson for most of this to make sense... A rundown of the politics between the major branches of the Neo Soviet Union wouldn't be out of the question either, but whatever.
[ ugh. she crosses her arms and taps the fingers of one hand against the juncture of the other. ]
Timeline. A little under two years ago, in late 2061, an 'accident' at the main manufacturing plant of the Sangvis Ferri weapons company killed everyone present. In the aftermath, the facility's central AI, referred to as 'Mastermind', took hostile control of the facility and all subordinate models. This was kept a secret from the general public, not hard to do when anyone onsite was killed. The military, rather than deal with this themselves, opted to contract it out to a small private military contractor called Griffin & Kryuger, which was notable for the high proportion of T-Dolls in their employ.
Two years later, the military decides to change their mind and propose a joint operation with Griffin to deal with Sangvis Ferri permanently. This presumably tips their hand to StateSec and the Federal Security Bureau, who send one of their own agents in to figure out what's going on and, if necessary, stop the military from achieving it is they were after. At the climax of the joint operation, comms in the area are cut, most of not all electronics operating within certain regions are either knocked offline, compromised, or berserked by a virus known as Parapluie. Whatever happened then, Griffin was left in a poor position and was forced to retreat to a safer sector while the military continued on towards its objective of a 'key.'
