I asked the room to show me the heart, and it became an empty wooden room, with nothing inside save for me. I was trapped there for several hours-- with the sound of a heartbeat from every possible direction.

I would think... by defeating the house. We dead are pretty much in the same boat.... it has a claim to all of our souls, and will absorb us next week.
It stands to reason, that if we can break the cycle, you'd get your missing pieces back.
